Yeah Lisa I don’t think Calgarians have any idea. There are two opposing groups protesting the dense housing plans right across the entire city irregardless of the neighborhood. Both groups feel this needs to happen to accommodate all the many new people here who need a home and somewhere to live but the opposing group feels nowhere near enough discussion has taken place and don’t agree with the city having no concrete plans other than to just start adding multi unit housing randomly everywhere! This debate with hundreds of Calgarians registered to speak each for 5 minutes lasts a week today is day 1 and 12 hours a day I believe I heard on the radio so it is a very big divisive subject and many are involved in person and also via text messages to the mayor and city council. 3 council members tried to shut this down a couple months ago but were outvoted. They wanted to make this a memorandum and not just bring it in without hardly any input from Calgarians themselves. A petition was started to throw Gandek out of her mayor position even before this, but again this failed because the percentage of handwritten signatures required was impossible to achieve over the timeframe given, a small business owner began the petition to remove her right after she hiked everyone’s property taxes plus the new carbon tax was levied at just about the same time.
