Yes, you know, Lisa, the majority are completely fine with some entity groping them 24/7. It’s astonishing. Especially if it’s draped in ‘authority’ and ‘keeping them safe’. Like children without a concept of privacy and personal rights, relegated to begging for what they want or need. Much appreciate your skills and energy.
I have been in the trucking industry for over 50 yrs and I have different perspective than most. While ELD's have only been manditory for a few years, vehicle tracking has been around since at least 1992. Yes these are intrusive on drivers privacy however fpr a vehicle owner, the freight shipper or receiver, it is valuable to know where your stuff is. The problem is who owns the data collected. The laws vary for different jurisdictions but I suggest the driver keep a paper copy for one year in case of a CRA audit. I know companies dump their data as soon as legaly possible in case some lawyer wants to try and use it to prove they are not operating in a safe manner. That leaves the ELT providers, do they own the data ? If so how long will they keep it ? Can they sell the data and if so , to who ? One of the advantages of having an ELD is there is less coercion from Shippers, receivers and dispatchers, to violate the Hours of Service laws. An electronic record of where I am , how fast I am traveling, when I apply the brakes, can really help a driver.
... beyond comment LL...this is a very informative article on a number of levels...i'm making progress readin 'The City and the Stars' by Arthur C. Clarke, and in terms of what's goin on, and where we're perhaps being taken, i'd highly recommend it... my readin etc has been regularly interrupted, though i did manage to finish Huxley's 'Island'...which i recommend...they both are replete with insights, the latter is more direct that way through the way it's written, Carke's sort of hit u, u discover u regularly goin 'ah!'... right, hmm! i see...
Too bad one can’t electronically track all of their deceptions and lies.
Thank goodness Lisa is on the case.
