You can do it too

This incredibly odd thing happened in a Movie. An insertion of truth. Remember product placement? Where a box of cereal or an apple computer would be so obviously placed?

Or the more common vice placement where characters were smoking?

Well there’s a new phenomena: I’m calling it Truth Placement. The movie The Independent called out to me. Per IMDB summary, this movie was about “A young journalist discovers a conspiracy involving a U.S. Presidential candidate that could change the election and the fate of the country”

The last words in the trailer were “I want the truth!” Anyone else? Everyone on this journey these last few years is hankering for truth. So while I haven’t been in the mood for fiction lately I decided to watch the movie.

What stood out was that type of journalism, where unflinchingly, the truth is pursued is a commodity that is only on the black market. OUTLAWED otherwise.

The other thing that stood out was one sentence. John Cena running for president says“ the NRA spends $3,000,000 on lobbying a year.”

“BUT PHARMA SPENDS THREE HUNDRED MILLION ($300,000,000) ON LOBBYING A YEAR.”

I might be mis-remembering the exact words. but not the amounts. What writer stuck that in! GoLD. PURE GOLD. would anyone watching even notice. Like the actor eating a big mac, it was a placement. A huge beautiful Truth Placement. For all those craving truth, or whose subconscious need another reason to understand their world.

It got me thinking. This wasn’t AT ALL the thrust of the movie. this was there because someone wanted many people to hear that and be part of the evaluation o how they look at this world of ours.

It was TRUTH PLACEMENT. Artists have to do it. Writers have to do it. Directors have to do it. And citizens have to do it.

I’ve been doing Truth Placement in the most ingenious places. Order something on line? Where they give you instructions: I add: STOPTHESHOTS.CA. I put it on my bills at restaurants.

What can you do with your audience? Speech to give? Use analogies. That would be like asking people to wear masks that don’t work and hide their beauty and vitality; or Yes I’ll send you the contract for your review, what do you think I am the government? Asking you to sign a contract without your review of the clauses? Absurd. That would be like asking people to inject themselves with a product without getting informed consent on their contents.

Be clever. Every minute of your day is an opportunity for wonderful expression of the truth. Remember you can take a break from hard conversations with the ‘same people’ and move into the world with strangers, dropping Truth Placements. Who cares about your ‘rejection’. The odd thing, I keep meeting more like minded people. Are we more than we thought? Do they go home and they are annoyed by you? or does it add up and get them thinking.

I think we have this space, you and I, a place for us to go. You read, we think, I write. And maybe for us there is a little refuge from the hostilities our world has become. It’s also a place where we ponder what is happening, and we can come perhaps after a rough rejection to our freedom notions, and we are here knowing there are others. Many others braving our world and standing up for what we believe is right. For the truth.
