The set up a Ministry of Truth and Enlightenment by bits and pieces
In this era of state owned media, which has been quite effective to create narrative doctrine, it is interesting to feel the echos of history. Is Canada moving to a controlled media?
Joseph Goebbels was the minister of propaganda for the German Third Reich under Adolf Hitler. Goebbels became a district administrator of the National Socialist German Workers’ Party and editor of National Socialist magazine. In that role he presented a fabourable image of the Nazi regime to the German people.
We are in Canada both seeing a social agenda that is predicated on pandemic politics, media control, and the censorship of individuals through various arms of the state.
National Ministry for Public Enlightenment and Propaganda
Goebbels took control of the newly created “National Ministry for Public Enlightenment and Propaganda” once Hitler came to power. Through this Ministry he controlled the press, radio, theatre, films, literature, music, and the fine arts.
Enlightenment?
It is interesting to me that Goebbels labelled the state function of his terror through media with the term ‘enlightenment’. We are often seeing the labelling of acts or bills especially in the US as the opposite of what the act or bill purports to do. It creates confusion in the mind of the citizenry.
To what extent are we approximating a control that is chillingly a page out of Gobbels desire to ‘enlighten’ his citizenry.
In Canada we have Bill C11 controlling many of the online arts. We have evidence of state control of media and press through various means reviewed below and we have a censorship for dissent on all tech through the use of D&M. The new S&M is now D&M: It is subjective, amorphous and favours the power structure that creates an oblique unchallengeable mechanism for censorship through the label of “Disinformation and Misinformation”.
We even have a Deputy Prime Minister whos maternal grandfather did similar propaganda in Poland for the Nazi regime. The echo is frightening.
Owning the Science, owning the media, owning tech and owning the narrative is eerily similar to the set up Goebbels enjoyed from which he had a pulpit to create terror, war, death, and concentration camps.
I note that drawing parallels to Goebbels use of propoganda does not create an intent to diminish the horror of terror and atrocities under Hitler and specifically that the holocaust was so significantly evil.
What we do know is that the centralization and control of speech and permitted discussable, information by governments does diminish the rights of citizens and we are seeing this pattern of silencing and censorship. It does not in my opinion, assist the democracy, but diminish it.
SPREADING FALSE NEWS
The first set up that approximates a government control of information, media, tech, information and speech in favour of Public Propaganda was the deletion of the Canadian Criminal Code provision spreading false news. S.181 of the Criminal Code from 2003-01-01 to 2019-06-20:
181 Every one who wilfully publishes a statement, tale or news that he knows is false and that causes or is likely to cause injury or mischief to a public interest is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years.
R.S., c. C-34, s. 177
In June of 2019 this provision was archived. The curiosity of the timing of this just ahead of the pandemic is chilling. The pandemic required a never before seen conformity of communications that reached even into the doctor patient relationship.
PROPAGANDA USED TO SILENCE THROUGH SHAME
Messaging on the media meant complete silent of dissent. Dissent was variously equated with:
wanting those in long term care to die;
wanting nurses to work 24/7;
diminishing the suffering of the Ukranian people (you must wait for world peace to have concerns);
siding with the Freedom Convoy (i DID. HONK.);
creating jibbi hesitancy and thus wanting the death of others; etc.
siding with extremists, or white supremacists; surely more to come.
This shame based dialogue was effective at silencing dissent. This illogical system created a forced association that becomes a correlation where none in fact exists. It is also the earlier version of discrimination we have departed from. That is, to assume a truth out of group from a fact that is true for an individual. So someone not wanting the jibbi MAY have wanted those in long term care to die. But frankly, I doubt it. Saying you are extreme for disagreeing with the government is the set up of your persecution while the majority stays silent.
This shame association is on overdrive and doesn’t assist valid dissent and sane discussion or debate. It enforces a power structure’s ability to silence its citizenship.
NEWLY MINTED MEDIA LICENSE
In Canada reporting now means the government must grant you a media license known as the Qualified Canadian Journalism Organization License. It is another step to eliminate the non-friendly media. Notably, perhaps, the most openly critical to the Trudeau regime is Rebel News.
The new way to dismiss dissent includes dismissal through personality and association. So you don’t need to pay attention to it because of the source. This cannot produce a balanced debate on government policy. It only serves to keep behind curtains the true nature of our government.
FUNDING OF MEDIA

The non-stop cycle of funding the media and readership decline has begun. The more readership decline’s the less advertisement revenue they can expect. Even capitalism it turns out is predicated on truth. It’s not that there are other options. It’s that those options don’t disagree with our experienced reality. You know the shots are ‘safe and effective’. That viewpoint will be fore the last reader standing.
The CBC has been decried as the arm of the government. The intensive funding has led to cries of biased coverage. Indeed CBC had to recall its articles of convoy coverage that materially led to the declaration of the Emergencies Act. One wonders if s.181 of the criminal code was alive and well, if we could have prosecutions protecting Canadian’s interests in truth in reporting. Instead the power structure decides the ‘truth’ through the D&M label, silence, funds and finds a way to make our current ‘news’ look closer and closer to Goebbels version of the “enlightenment” we deserve.
BILL C-18 THE ONLINE NEWS ACT
The federal government has sought to further fund and regulate its ‘trusted’ aka national or state news sources, through Bill C-18, the Online News Act.
Bill C-18 is troublesome since it makes Canadian journalists permanently dependent on the federal government, through the mechanisms of tax relief and subsidy funds. It also creates what media reaches Canadians by forcing companies like Facebook and Google to subsidize pro-government Canadian news providers. This is all done with the same view point. Big Brother Knows Best.
Bill C-11 REGULATING ‘BROADCASTS’ THROUGH THE CRTC
Bill C-11 was passed by Canadian MPs in 2022. It purports to regulate the internet by including most content as ‘Broadcasts’, subject to the CRTC’s Rules under the guise of ‘Canadian content’.
Open Media has been following the bill and has generated a petition of over 100k Canadians. Open Media has many concerns, not the least the requirement for you to upload your identification. All who dare speak against the Minister of the Truth or Fact checkers in fact are identified.

Will we see the SOCAN definition of Canadian Content include the subjective moving viewpoint on disinformation and misinformation?
One wonder’s if any of his intrusive legislative agenda and state arming of the media was a factor Trudeau ran on? Can we expect fair coverage or even balanced reporting through this system? Or just more censorship, control, D&M, and state-imposed ‘enlightenment’. But then who would be reporting that viewpoint anyways?
ONLINE PLATFORMS Already KNOW YOU
Censorship of the Big-tech is de rigueur. You are identified in Chrome prior to browsing.
If you’ve been De-platformed in Linkedin you need to upload your identification to contest their finding. You may not contest their issue with your posts, just promise to adhere to Rules. My communication with LinkedIn read oddly like a communication with an alien task force.

I note on this point they presume to know what I must have ‘known or thought was misleading, inaccurate’ . That this is the thought police does not escape me. They do not only want me to do forced think through conformity or silence, but their process in censoring me requires them to know “what I know or think may be misleading”. So I have to admit to get back on to have been posting misleading or inaccurate posts. It’s the: tell me you were holding the gun that shot the deceased and I’ll let you out of jail. It’s a forced confession full stop. It’s moreover under duress because its the platform you may need for networking and obtaining or gaining employment.

The communication from LinkedIn after providing identification, asked me to “please refer to the LinkedIn's User Agreement and Professional Community Policies. So they get to say what “I know or think” about a subject and without citing references and essential make me confess to something they said they know, which is unknowable, that I did.
ECHOS OF A NAZI COLLABORATOR IN FREELAND’S FAMILY
But it’s not just the new media set-up that might resemble the Ministry of Enlightenment, with the tightening of controls and increasing of individual persecution through identification and censorship.
No. Our own Deputy Prime Minister has a family member who did just this role for Nazi Regime during WWII according the Globe and Mail in 2017. While this now rag, faced the rubric of s.181 of the Criminal Code.
This is a direct quote from the Globe and Mail which I copied in full because of how often I go back to find tidbits on the internet white washed except for in the way-back machine.
“Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland knew for more than two decades that her maternal Ukrainian grandfather was the chief editor of a Nazi newspaper in occupied Poland that vilified Jews during the Second World War.
Ms. Freeland's family history has become a target for Russian forces seeking to discredit one of Canada's highly placed defenders of Ukraine.
Ms. Freeland, who has paid tribute to her maternal grandparents in articles and books, helped edit a scholarly article in the Journal of Ukrainian Studies in 1996 that revealed her grandfather, Michael Chomiak, was a Nazi propagandist for Krakivski Visti (Krakow News).
Krakivski Visti was set up in 1940 by the German army and supervised by German intelligence officer Emil Gassert. Its printing presses and offices were confiscated by the Germans from a Jewish publisher, who was later murdered at the Belzec concentration camp.
The article titled "Kravivski Visti and the Jews, 1943: A contribution of Ukrainian Jewish Relations during the Second World War" was written by Ms. Freeland's uncle, John-Paul Himka, now professor emeritus at the University of Alberta.
In the foreword to the article, Prof. Himka credits Ms. Freeland for "pointing out problems and clarifications." Ms. Freeland has never acknowledged that her grandfather was a Nazi collaborator and suggested on Monday that the allegation was part of a Russian disinformation campaign.
In 1996, Prof. Himka wrote about Mr. Chomiak's work for Kravivski Visti, a Ukrainian-language newspaper based in Krakow that often published anti-Jewish diatribes including "certain passages in some of the articles that expressed approval of what the Nazis were doing to the Jews."
But he also said in the article, edited by Ms. Freeland, that Mr. Chomiak had told his family that he was playing a double game as the editor of the newspaper.
"A daughter of the chief editor, who interviewed her father about his wartime experiences, has informed me that Mykhailo Khomiak [Michael Chomiak] and the editorial board as a whole worked to some extent with the anti-Nazi resistance; in particular, they issued false papers for members of the underground," he wrote.
Prof. Himka said that he was never able to verify this information, which he described as "fragmentary and one-sided."
In an interview on Tuesday, Prof. Himka said he never knew that Mr. Chomiak had worked for the Nazis until after his father-in-law passed away and he discovered copies of Krakivski Visti in his personal papers.
Although he acknowledged that Mr. Chomiak was a Nazi collaborator, he maintained that the Germans made the editorial decisions to run anti-Semitic articles and other Nazi propaganda.
"Yeah he was the editor of a legal newspaper in Nazi-occupied Poland. He never signed anything in the paper. He never made policy or that kind of thing. It wouldn't be his call," Prof. Himka told The Globe and Mail. "[The newspaper] also performed a function for Ukrainian culture and kept Ukrainian intelligentsia alive during the war by paying them for articles, not just anti-Semitic articles but articles about Ukrainian culture. It was a bit of a mixed bag."
Ms. Freeland's office offered a short statement when asked for comment on Prof. Himka's writings about Krakivski Visti and her grandfather.
"Dating back many years, the Minister has supported her uncle's efforts to study and publish on this difficult chapter in her late grandfather's past," press secretary Alexander Lawrence said in an e-mail Tuesday evening.
On Monday, Ms. Freeland accused Russia of spreading disinformation when she was asked by reporters about a number of stories that have appeared in pro-Putin websites about Mr. Chomiak's Nazi past.
"I don't think it's a secret. American officials have publicly said, and even [German Chancellor] Angela Merkel has publicly said, that there were efforts on the Russian side to destabilize Western democracies, and I think it shouldn't come as a surprise if these same efforts were used against Canada," Ms. Freeland replied.
She did not directly respond to questions about whether the stories about Mr. Chomiak were true. When The Globe asked her office on Monday to refute the allegation, Mr. Lawrence responded: "People should be questioning where this information comes from, and the motivations behind it."
Conservative foreign affairs critic Peter Kent said it was obvious the Russians dug up details on Mr. Chomiak's past to smear Ms. Freeland.
"It is unacceptable. It seems they are trying smear a minister with historical detail that has probably been misrepresented," he said. "It is unfair and it is typical of what we have seen in other countries and it has nothing to do with her ability to represent Canada."
Ms. Freeland is a fierce critic of Russia's annexation of Crimea and was banned from travelling to Russia in 2014, along with 12 other Canadians who had advocated for Western sanctions against the Putin regime.
Stories published in pro-Russian websites have said Ms. Freeland's strong stand against Russian aggression in Ukraine is linked to her grandfather's past.
Ms. Freeland has written that her maternal grandparents fled Ukraine in 1939, describing them as "political exiles with a responsibility to keep alive the idea of an independent Ukraine.""
They are taking desperate and terrible means to control all forms of expression that do not conform with their narrative or ‘enlightenment’. Yet I very much believe St. Augustine’s quote below.
Is Canada moving towards a controlled media?....is a question posed at the beginning of this article.
